Beer Review #2: Deconstruction Golden Ale

Deconstruction Golden Ale

As a result of a tidbit from another beer loving friend of ours, the termination of my workweek was rewarded with a bottle of Odell Brewing Company’s Deconstruction Golden Ale. The lovely Miss E and I uncorked this divine brew as dusk gave way to the rise of the moon and a perfect summer night. Poured aggressively into a couple of snifters, the large head dissipated quickly and the rich and hazy deep golden hue of this brew was revealed. The initial scent demonstrated the qualities of the oak, bourbon and wine barrels in which this beer aged in. To my palate, the first tasting of this beer walks the line of the qualities typical to a sour beer. It starts off quite sweet with numerous fruity esters but quickly gives way to a strong tart and oak finish. The varietal of conditioning and fermentation techniques used while brewing this beer lend to a very complex taste which changes over the duration of the glass. As De lingers and warms slightly in my glass, the aroma begins to yield hints of dandelions and other flora nodes while its taste reveals sweeter qualities including a touch of honey.

This beer posses a lot of depth which deserves considered exploration and is a selection I am quite happy with. Despite its in-depth offerings, I feel this is a beer a non-beer lover would appreciate because of its unique qualities that skirt what wine, bourbon and scotch offer. Additionally, as my love and research into beer, brewing techniques and cellaring expand, I’d love to see how this beer ages over a couple of years.

Don’t let the fifteen bone price tag change your mind about trying this nectar out. The enjoyment that will result from sitting back on your porch while lingering on sip after sip, watching the moon arc across the summer sky and listening to the crickets chirp is well worth the price of admission.

Drink Up.
