One of the quintessential features to any country or mountain road are the collectives of mailboxes that dot the landscape every few miles, similar to the one I found alongside Highway 133 near Carbondale, Colorado and the campground I stayed at this past weekend. The uniquely generated addresses of painted, written, scratched and sticker letterforms adorn rusted, worn, and chipped mailboxes create the directory of the nearby residents. Low-fi, re-appropriated and utilitarian design of each mailbox is what makes these collections so attractive to me. Below are a few that stood out from what I found.
