During the course of today’s workday, I decided to put on the Black Key’s latest release Brothers. A sonic treat for my aural sense filled with gritty guitar riffs and primal thumping drums. Worth every penny. While inserting the disc into my player the inner voice inside commented to myself, “How clever, black typography printed on a brown hue of black disc. What a nice correlation to the name of the band that also appeals to my design sensibilities.” Fast forward a little under an hour, sonic treats consumed, and it is time move on to the next course for the day, Pearl Jam’s Lost Dogs. Brothers ejects itself from the player and a simple yet effective design consideration presents itself. BAM! The disc is now black typography on a white disc transformed by the heat of the player, a nice touch and my love of the physical artifact is furthered.
